1. Both are very Indian and connected to Indian life in general

2. For both films, it takes a British film maker to make a realistic movie (in a decently big scale - at least the worldwide release), although films connected to both subjects/themes have been attempted by Indian film makers before or after.

3. Both the films are produced in India, with 80% Indian Cast and Crew

Gandhi had - Rohini Hattangadi, Roshan Seth, Saeed Jaffrey, Aleque Padamsee, Amrish Puri & Om Puri,
Slumdog - Anil Kapoor, Irrfan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Saurabh Shukla, Raj Zutshi

4. The male leads of both the films is a Gujarati, from UK (Ben Kingley and Dev Patel)
The female leads were both from Bombay (Rohini Hattangadi and Frieda Pinto)


5. The Music Director of both films are Great Indian Talents, who were nominated for Oscars for this work (Pandit Ravi Shankar and A. R. Rahman, respectively)

6. When released in India, both films have their share of controversy

7. Both films win 8 Oscars (Gandhi -11 nom, Slumdog- 10 nom)
